2024 Indiana Assisted Living of the Year Awarded to North Woods Village at Edison Lakes

Mishawaka, IN. – North Woods Village at Edison Lakes, a licensed assisted living
memory care community located in Mishawaka, Indiana, is celebrating its new title as
the 2024 State of Indianan Assisted Living Community of the Year, just a week after
celebrating its tenth anniversary of serving residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and other
forms of dementia. The award was recently honored at the 2024 Indiana Assisted Living
Association (“INALA”) annual state conference held in Noblesville, Indiana.
The Indiana Assisted Living Association wants to raise the profile of professionals helping
to run residential care communities, also known as assisted living communities, in the
Hoosier State. INALA is highlighting National Assisted Living Week by honoring
caregivers and communities who have gone above and beyond their required duties to
serve senior Hoosiers.

The National Assisted Living Week began on Sunday with National Grandparents Day
and runs through Saturday. INALA, based in Indianapolis, highlighted some of the state’s
top caregivers in assisted living by marking their excellence at a special awards ceremony
and banquet as well as on social media posts and other public awareness platforms.

“Each year the National Assisted Living Week is a week to stop and reflect on and
celebrate the incredible caregivers who serve in our industry and are called to help seniors
live their lives to the fullest by helping them regain their independence when limited by
physical challenges,” said INALA Executive Director, Dan Kenyon. “In order to
enhance the awareness of senior living communities and caregivers, INALA hosts a
special awards ceremony each year to honor those making the most impactful and
innovative contributions to the assisted living community,” continued Mr. Kenyon.

“Out of the 366 assisted living communities in Indiana, North Woods Village at Edison
Lakes is the first community in northern Indiana to be awarded the prestigious Assisted
Living Community of the Year award twice! The first time North Woods Village won the
award was in 2018, now six years later they have won the title again. This is a true
testament to the commitment of our leadership team and caregivers over the year to
continue to provide ongoing exceptional care in a residential setting for those with
memory impairments,” said Melissa Caldwell with WestShore Senior Living, the
Management company for the North Woods Village Communities.

North Woods Village at Edison Lakes recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary, which
included a special ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the South Bend Chamber of
Commerce. In addition to Chamber Members, the event was celebrated by local industry partners, family members and staff. “It was a wonderful celebration, and a clear example
of the dedication the North Woods Village team members and the assisted living memory
care community have shown to integrating into the Michiana community and continuing
to offer service excellence year after year,” said Owner and Founder of North Woods
Village at Edison Lakes, Dane Slabaugh. “Since we opened our doors 10 years ago,
North Woods Village strives to foster deep shared connections between the caregivers,
residents, family members, and the greater community which help contribute to the
community’s on-going success,” Mr. Slabaugh added.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, by 2034 the number of older adults is projected
to outnumber the amount of children in the United States, this will be a first in our nation’s
history. IN Indiana, there are about 366 assisted living communities that provide services
and care for an estimated 57,000 seniors in the State of Indiana. Currently, over 24,000
caregivers and other employees work in the Indiana assisted living industry, which
together have over a $3.2 billion dollar impact on the Indiana economy.

North Woods Village works to provide the highest quality care possible, while ensuring
each resident the ability to live their life to the fullest. Staff keep residents’ personal
preferences and wellbeing the focus of their care. Their dedication to individualized,
compassionate care is what makes their community a family.
