Mishawaka, IN, July 1, 2015, – North Woods Village at Edison Lakes is excited to announce that Jenifer Coffman, MPA, BSN, RN, Director of Health and Wellness has successfully earned her certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CPD).
North Woods Village at Edison Lakes is committed to bettering and advancing Alzheimer’s and Dementia care in Michiana. This specialized and advanced training and programming helps to ensure its residents and their families receive the very best in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care that is available. These training standards go above and beyond the minimum state requirements regarding dementia education and practice.
“Certification plays an important role in being able to provide the proper care for people with memory impairment. The body of knowledge has grown exponentially over the last fifteen years since I became a nurse. We no longer have residents ‘fold towels’ at the nurses station, we engage them in their life, assist them with cueing where their memory ends. Without taking the time to study and understand the disease process, I would not be able to help provide the right environment for our residents,” says Jenifer Coffman Director of Health and Wellness at North Woods Village at Edison Lakes.
The Certified Dementia Practitioner certification is the earned credential that recognizes that the highest standard in Alzheimer’s and Dementia education has been achieved. CDP’s complete extensive training in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Key aspects of this training include communication techniques, disruptive behaviors intervention, tools for addressing wandering, aggressive behaviors, poor nutrition and sexuality. CDP’s work to enhance the use of new methods, theories and tools related to Alzheimer’s and Dementia care practices.
